HISTORY AND MISSION

IN 2029, WEYLAND-YUTANI CORPORATION ACQUIRED THE EUROPEAN ORGANIZATION FOR NUCLEAR RESEARCH, TRANSITIONING IT FROM A PUBLICLY FUNDED INTERGOVERNMENTAL ENTITY TO A DIVISION OF THE CORPORATION'S RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION. THE ACQUISITION FOLLOWED A PERIOD OF DECLINING GOVERNMENT FUNDING THAT THREATENED THE CONTINUATION OF THE WORLD'S MOST IMPORTANT PARTICLE PHYSICS PROGRAM.

UNDER CORPORATE STEWARDSHIP, CERN HAS RECEIVED UNPRECEDENTED LEVELS OF INVESTMENT. THE LARGE HADRON COLLIDER HAS BEEN UPGRADED TWICE, ACHIEVING COLLISION ENERGIES PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT UNREACHABLE. THE FACILITY'S WORKFORCE HAS GROWN FROM 1,200 TO 2,400 RESEARCHERS.

THE STRATEGIC VALUE OF CERN TO THE CORPORATION CANNOT BE OVERSTATED. FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH INTO PARTICLE PHYSICS, QUANTUM GRAVITY, AND ANTIMATTER DIRECTLY UNDERLIES THE TECHNOLOGIES THAT DEFINE WEYLAND-YUTANI: FTL PROPULSION, MICRO-FUSION POWER, AND ADVANCED MATERIALS SCIENCE.

THE CORPORATION MAINTAINS CERN'S TRADITION OF OPEN SCIENCE. PUBLICATIONS IN NON-PROPRIETARY RESEARCH AREAS CONTINUE TO BE RELEASED THROUGH PEER-REVIEWED JOURNALS, AND THE FACILITY HOSTS VISITING RESEARCHERS FROM PARTNER INSTITUTIONS WORLDWIDE.

QUANTUM GRAVITY

THE CORNERSTONE OF FTL PROPULSION RESEARCH. CERN'S QUANTUM GRAVITY PROGRAM INVESTIGATES THE FUNDAMENTAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GRAVITY AND QUANTUM MECHANICS, PRODUCING THE THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK THAT ENABLES FASTER-THAN-LIGHT TRANSIT.

ANTIMATTER RESEARCH

THE PRODUCTION, STORAGE, AND APPLICATION OF ANTIMATTER. RESEARCH HAS LED TO ADVANCES IN MICRO-FUSION CELL TECHNOLOGY AND ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS DEPLOYED ACROSS ALL CORPORATE PRODUCT LINES.

HIGH-ENERGY PHYSICS

COLLIDER EXPERIMENTS PROBING THE STRUCTURE OF MATTER AT THE SMALLEST SCALES. RECENT WORK HAS IDENTIFIED THREE PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN SUBATOMIC PARTICLES WITH APPLICATIONS IN MATERIALS SCIENCE.

DARK MATTER DETECTION

ONGOING EXPERIMENTS TO DETECT AND CHARACTERIZE DARK MATTER PARTICLES. THE PROGRAM OPERATES THE WORLD'S MOST SENSITIVE PARTICLE DETECTORS AND COLLABORATES WITH OFF-WORLD OBSERVATION PLATFORMS.

THE COMPUTING INFRASTRUCTURE AT CERN PROCESSES MORE DATA THAN ANY OTHER FACILITY ON EARTH. THE DIVISION DEVELOPS NOVEL COMPUTING ARCHITECTURES INCLUDING QUANTUM AND NEUROMORPHIC SYSTEMS.
