MAINTENANCE ENGINEER
POSITION OVERVIEW
THE FLEET OPERATIONS DIVISION REQUIRES A CRYOGENIC POD MAINTENANCE ENGINEER TO SERVE ABOARD USCSS-CLASS DEEP SPACE VESSELS. THIS CRITICAL ROLE INVOLVES THE CONTINUOUS MAINTENANCE, CALIBRATION, AND EMERGENCY REPAIR OF HYPERSLEEP CRYOGENIC POD ARRAYS THAT SUSTAIN CREW VIABILITY DURING INTERSTELLAR TRANSIT. THE ENGINEER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ASPECTS OF CRYOGENIC CHAMBER MAINTENANCE, INCLUDING THERMAL REGULATION SYSTEMS, CRYOGENIC FLUID CIRCULATION, BIOMEDICAL MONITORING INTERFACES, AND POD HULL INTEGRITY. FAILURE IN ANY OF THESE SYSTEMS DURING DEEP SPACE TRANSIT CONSTITUTES A CATEGORY-1 LIFE-CRITICAL EVENT, MAKING THIS POSITION AMONG THE MOST ESSENTIAL ABOARD ANY FLEET VESSEL.
ASSIGNED ENGINEERS WILL OPERATE INDEPENDENTLY DURING TRANSIT PHASES, PERFORMING SCHEDULED INSPECTIONS AND RESPONDING TO AUTOMATED FAULT ALERTS FROM THE SHIP'S CENTRAL MONITORING SYSTEM. THE ROLE REQUIRES EXTENDED PERIODS OF SOLE WAKEFULNESS DURING CREW HYPERSLEEP CYCLES, DEMANDING EXCEPTIONAL TECHNICAL COMPETENCE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL RESILIENCE. CRYO POD TECHNICIANS SERVE ON ROTATION SCHEDULES OF 6 TO 18 MONTHS DEPENDING ON MISSION PROFILE, WITH GUARANTEED SHORE LEAVE AT GATEWAY STATION OR EARTH-SIDE FACILITIES BETWEEN DEPLOYMENTS. ALL CRYOSLEEP MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL RECEIVE PRIORITY BERTHING AND ENHANCED LIFE SUPPORT ALLOCATIONS.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- ▶PERFORM SCHEDULED PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE ON ALL HYPERSLEEP CRYOGENIC POD UNITS, INCLUDING COOLANT LINE FLUSHING, SEAL INSPECTION, AND THERMAL REGULATION CALIBRATION
- ▶MONITOR AND MAINTAIN CRYOGENIC FLUID DELIVERY AND RECLAMATION SUBSYSTEMS, ENSURING OPTIMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURES BETWEEN -196C AND -210C
- ▶CONDUCT PRE-DEPLOYMENT POD INTEGRITY TESTING FOR ALL CREW MEMBERS, INCLUDING BIOMEDICAL SENSOR VERIFICATION AND EMERGENCY REVIVAL SYSTEM CHECKS
- ▶DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR ELECTRICAL FAULTS IN POD CONTROL CIRCUITS, HEATING ELEMENTS, AND AUTOMATED LID ACTUATOR MECHANISMS
- ▶EXECUTE EMERGENCY POD REVIVAL PROCEDURES IN THE EVENT OF SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, COOLANT BREACH, OR HULL COMPROMISE
- ▶MAINTAIN DETAILED DIGITAL LOGS OF ALL MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES, COMPONENT REPLACEMENTS, AND ANOMALY REPORTS IN COMPLIANCE WITH ICC CRYOGENIC SAFETY REGULATIONS
- ▶COORDINATE WITH SHIP MEDICAL OFFICER ON CREW BIOMETRIC DATA INTEGRATION AND HYPERSLEEP MEDICAL PROTOCOLS
- ▶MANAGE ONBOARD SPARE PARTS INVENTORY FOR CRYOGENIC SYSTEMS, INCLUDING REQUISITIONING REPLACEMENT COMPONENTS AT RESUPPLY WAYPOINTS
REQUIREMENTS
- ▶BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CRYOGENIC ENGINEERING, BIOMEDICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEERING, OR CLOSELY RELATED DISCIPLINE
- ▶MINIMUM 4 YEARS HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE IN CRYOGENIC SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE, PREFERABLY IN AEROSPACE OR MEDICAL APPLICATIONS
- ▶ICC CRYOGENIC SYSTEMS CERTIFICATION (CLASS II OR HIGHER) — MANDATORY
- ▶DEMONSTRATED PROFICIENCY IN CLOSED-LOOP THERMAL MANAGEMENT AND LIQUID NITROGEN / LIQUID HELIUM HANDLING PROCEDURES
- ▶EXPERIENCE WITH BIOMEDICAL SENSOR INTEGRATION, VITAL SIGN TELEMETRY, AND AUTOMATED PATIENT MONITORING SYSTEMS
- ▶MEDICAL CLEARANCE FOR DEEP SPACE ASSIGNMENT AND EXTENDED HYPERSLEEP TRANSIT (W-Y MEDICAL FORM DS-7)
- ▶PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE FOR EXTENDED SOLE-WAKEFULNESS OPERATIONS (MINIMUM 120-DAY CERTIFICATION)
- ▶W-Y CORPORATE SECURITY CLEARANCE LEVEL 3 OR ELIGIBILITY
